March 2021’s free Microsoft Endpoint Manager Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr/SCCM/MEMCM/MECM) giveaway is the Software Updates by Age report. This month’s free report is only available in an SSRS format.

Configuration Manager doesn’t have a good way of telling you which computers have NOT had software updates (SU) applied to them within a mandated time frame. Along with internal and external Service Level Agreements (SLA), and with more and more organizations, such as the National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), mandating that SU must be deployed within 30-days of their release date, you NEED to know this information. Unfortunately, the MECM built-in reports do not provide these details.
Would you find it useful to know what patches don’t meet your mandated security standards?
Solution: Software Updates by Age
The Software Updates by Age report fills this gap by giving you this crucial information! This report displays all of the software updates in a specified collection by age. You choose the collection, the classifications and what software update groups you want to see in order to filter the results.
This report categorizes the age of software updates based on these time frames: 0-30 days, 31-60 days, 61-90 days and over 91 days.
You can see the overall compliance percentage of software updates by clicking on this icon . You’ll also see the total number of SU, the number of installed SU and the number of outstanding (required) SU for each of the chosen classifications (Critical Updates, Security Updates, etc.).
In the full set, if you need more information about any required software updates for a particular time frame, you can drilldown from the Required row to the Count of Computers Missing Software Updates by Classification report.
One of the best parts about an SSRS report is that, not only can you export it to a PDF and print it (the columns all fit on one page), but you can setup an email subscription to this report. Once a subscription is setup, the report is emailed to you at scheduled times. This feature is also available in a number of Enhansoft Reporting’s dashboards/reports. For more information about how to setup an email subscription, please see this post, https://www.enhansoft.com/how-to-set-up-an-email-subscription-in-ssrs/.
