Dealing with SSRS Report Errors

When dealing with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports, occasionally you may get an error such as the one below. No matter what you do you still get this message; even when you fix the report and know it works. So, what does this error message mean? How do you get to the root of the problem? In this blog post, I’ll tell you where to turn when dealing with SSRS report errors.

    • An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
        • Query execution failed for dataset ‘SUVendor’. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)
          • Could not find stored procedure ‘dbo.ES_SU_Dashboard_flt_vendor’.

The starting point of the solution is found in the Microsoft Knowledge Base article: How to: Enable Remote Errors (Reporting Services Configuration).

SSRS Report Errors

By following the steps in this article, you will see that after you re-run the SSRS report, a new error message is created; only this time the error message will be more specific as to what the actual problem is that is causing the report not to run. In some cases it might be simply a permissions issue. In other cases, it might not be that simple a problem to fix.
